Stronger Together: Building a community for literary translators [in English]
The international collective Strong Women, Soft Power was formed as a means of offering support, pooling resources, and strengthening the position of literary translators. Allison Markin Powell, Lucy North, and Ginny Tapley Takemori share what led to the collective, some of the issues that affect translators, and possible strategies for building a wider community.
12.15 pm: Session 2: Translation Workshop Demo [in English]
A brief demonstration of one format for gathering a group of translators on a regular basis, in a regular space, where everyone can bring work in progress to share.

The Vanguard: Representing Japanese literature to the world [in Japanese]
Publishing professionals discuss the current climate for literary writers, and the decisions and criteria involved in selling and promoting Japanese literature abroad, including which writers and which books are chosen, how translators are selected, and how these methods affect the perception of Japanese literature in English.
Panelists: Kazuto Yamaguchi, Managing Editor, Kodansha; Hiroshi Arai, Head of Rights, Bungei Shunju; Ako Sahara, Director, JLPP Office.
Moderated by: Yukiko Tajima, literary consultant.
